Los Angeles Lakers to be sold for world sports record amount
The NBA approved franchise acquisition by businessman Mark Walter for $10 billion.
This becomes the largest sports transaction in history, surpassing Boston Celtics (2025 - $6.1B), Washington Commanders (2023 - $6.05B), Denver Broncos (2022 - $4.65B) and Chelsea FC (2022 - $4.25B).
The Buss family, controlling owners since 1979, will retain minority shares. Walter holds stakes in Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB), Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA), Cadillac's F1 team, and football clubs including Chelsea and Racing Strasbourg.
