The Sale of the Boston Celtics Becomes a Record-Breaking Deal in the U.S.
Businessman Bill Chisholm has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of the Celtics for $6.1 billion, making him the team’s majority shareholder.
With this sale, the historic franchise becomes the most expensive in the NBA and U.S. sports, surpassing the Washington Commanders of the NFL, who were sold for $6 billion in 2023.
The previous owners purchased the team in 2002 for approximately $360 million. This means that in 22 years, they achieved a 1,594% increase in value, multiplying their investment more than 17 times.
